Every year a group of fourth-graders travels to the VA Hospital in Jackson, MS to share love, appreciation, and respect to those in the hospital with Valentine's card. The cards are created by students from many of the classes at SEE. The fourth graders who deliver the cards are selected by their homeroom teacher based on attitude, leadership skills, and classroom conduct. When the fourth-graders arrive at the hospital they are greeted by employees at voluntary services. The students greet others in the waiting area and visit with those who live in the assisted living area of the hospital. After the visits, the students tour the hospital and arrive at the Director's office. The students spoke with Dr. Walker, Hospital Director, about the operations of the hospital and the types of jobs at the hospital. Dr. Walker spoke of the 20,000+ jobs provided and the multi-million dollar budget of the hospital. He encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunity for a good education. The students left with an appreciation of our veterans and their service to our country as well as new knowledge about hospitals.
