The fourth grade Spelling Bee was held Monday, December 6th. Students competed in their homeroom spelling bee last week. After 8 very competitive rounds, Cooper Hughes and Kaylen Roberts were the two top spellers. In round 9, Cooper correctly spelled "pineapple" and Kaylen was tripped up by the word "hedgehog" Cooper spelled "Nile" correctly to be declared the 1st place winner and Kaylen finished as the second place winner. Both Cooper and Kaylen will compete in the Meridian/Lauderdale County Spelling Bee next semester. The county spelling bee will include the 4th - 8th grade school winners. There were 24 students in the Southeast Elementary Spelling Bee. The top 6 spellers from each class advanced to the school bee. Mrs. Culpepper's spellers were Ella Williams, Sophia Hiatt, Graysen Harper, Imani Moore, Mayleigh Burcham and Elealah Baldwin. Mrs Gressett's spellers were Caden Eason, Adien Vargas, De'Carius Lockett, Sarah Viohl, Kaleb Jackson and Kylie Canterbury. Mrs. Turk's spellers were Laurie Purvis, Allie Purvis, Ava Jane Beddingfield, Jax Griffith, Cash Whitehead and Kaylon Boyd. Mrs. Thorne's spellers were Kaylen Roberts, Cooper Hughes, Caroline Wells, Olivia Ross, Reid Henry and Mackenzie Miller.
